A Great School Finds a Great Home

We dedicate this School to

…the advantage of the future generations of students
who will come here and benefit from all its great tradition

…the hopes and dreams of children of every race,
every color, every creed, every religion, every background,
who together glorify the beauty of the earth by their very being,
but most especially by their being together

…the perpetuation and extension of those ideals of tolerance,
respect and compassion for others for which our School stands

Richard D. Enemark, Ph.D.
Doane Stuart School, Opening Day, September 2009

Our New home secures our future as a School Community. One mile from downtown Albany, just off I-90, the historic campus above the Hudson River has over 24 acres for enhanced athletics and environmental preservation and gives expanded scope and opportunities for growth.

Built in the 1930s, with a large addition constructed in 1995, the School’s new home offers a wonderful blend of old and new. “The modern building will certainly serve the students well, but we also have a space that has some patina to it,” said Dr. Enemark.

The configuration of the classrooms in the 1995 addition - clusters of classrooms (each with its own bathroom), around a common area - is especially well-suited to the Lower School. The art deco features, brass railings, solid wood cabinets, elaborate plaster, moldings, marble lintels, plaster friezes and decorative tiles in the older sections add great interest and character to the administrative offices, the Upper School classrooms, the Board Room and other spaces.

These architectural details have allowed Doane Stuart to make a graceful transition from one historic campus to another and equally expressive one.
