Smithsonian Magazine features photo by Mary Jane Hacker, SA '66

The close up photo of corn silk (right) was selected by the Smithsonian Magazine as a "Photo of the Day" in November 2009.

The red color is a genetic mutation that happens sometimes on corn. The photo was taken in the middle of the day in the bright sunshine; the streaks of white are light, pure sunshine.
