Michael Lowry ’23 participated in the Annual Chopin Piano Competition for piano students in the Greater Capital Region and took home 1st place in Chopin piano competition Masters division. Michael can often be heard playing piano throughout the day and throughout the building (DS has over 9 pianos in the building). His amazing talents do not go unnoticed by his DS family and we are so proud of his hard work and dedication to his craft. Michael states that he is, “very grateful for the opportunity to play piano during my free period.”
The Capital District Council for Young Musicians, Inc. (CDCYM) is a 501(c) nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide a forum and opportunities for young musicians in our area to perform for development of their own musical talents and for the cultural enhancement of the community.
The CDCYM is the sponsor of the Annual Chopin Piano Competition for piano students in the Greater Capital Region. This prestigious event sees 25-30 of the finest young pianists in the region compete. Judges are drawn from the faculties of upstate NY colleges and universities. Prizes are awarded in three categories: Novice, Apprentice, and Master.
