Director of Admission Dan Pearson participates in Customs and Border PAtrol (CBP) program at Logan International Airport
Director of Admission Dan Pearson recently participated in a Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) program at Logan International Airport in Boston. Pearson joined staff from other schools and colleges in order to learn how to ease arrival for international students.
Participants ranged from student advisors to registrars and international recruiters. They came from schools such as Boston University, Northeastern University, and The Groton School and from language academies. The participants learned what happens to international arrivals with student visas in primary and secondary processing and how to best resolve issues should a student and/or their family encounter difficulty. While Doane Stuart enrolls only a small number of middle and high school students from China, Pearson said the program was crucial and instructive, particularly as students arriving from across the globe already have many worries and anxieties. Being able to eliminate challenges at the border helps a student to feel welcome and improves their first impressions of their new country. A highlight of the program included a visit with Tomas, a member of Logan’s “Beagle Brigade,” which is a team of dogs trained to work with CBP and US Fish and Wildlife to sniff for contraband.
