Congratulations to the boys soccer team, who, for the second time in school history, earned a home seed in the upcoming Section II tournament. The #8 seeded Thunder Chickens will host #9 Hoosic Valley on Wednesday, October 18 at 3:00 pm at the Bethlehem Central High School Field.
Doane Stuart ended the regular season with a 3-5 record in the CHVL (Central Hudson Valley League) and 4-9 record overall. Hoosic Valley finished their regular season at 4-10 in the Wasaren League. Doane Stuart will compete in the Class CC bracket, which is for larger sized Section C schools. Doane Stuart earns this placement due to our soccer partnership with Rensselaer High School.
Highlights for the season include beating Loudonville Christian, who finished 6-2 and was league Co-Champs with Bishop Maginn. Coach David Wells attributes the competitiveness of the CHVL to his squad earning a home game: “The CHVL was incredibly competitive this year. The top two teams [Loudonville Christian and Bishop Maginn] earned the #3 and #4 seeds for the Section II Class D bracket. The seeding committee clearly acknowledges the strength of our league and gave [DS] a relatively high seed because of it.”
This is the second time in school history that DS boys soccer has hosted an opening round match. The only other time DS hosted an opening round matchup saw DS “host” Stillwater, which was played at Stillwater due to playing field requirements. This is also why DS, as the host team, is playing at Bethlehem High School on Wednesday.
Waiting for the winner of DS-Hoosick Valley is Greenville, the #1 overall seed for the Section II Class CC bracket. A Doane Stuart victory will mark the first time in school history that we will have advanced to the quarterfinals of the boys soccer sectional tournament.
Congratulations and good luck to our student-athletes tomorrow, especially our seniors: Andrew Breadon of Belfast (Assistant Coach and stat keeper), John Ding of China, Lucas DiPreta of Clifton Park, Matthew Esslie of Cairo, Thomas Kirby of Athens, William Murdock of Stephentown, Dillon Norton of Selkirk, Sam Smith of Delanson, and Dawson Stone of East Greenbush.
Go Thunder Chickens!! Beat Hoosick Valley!
