Doane Stuart

College Sweatshirt Day 2016

Thursday, February 4, was not just any Thursday at Doane Stuart.
It was College Sweatshirt Day!

In its 11th year, College Sweatshirt Day is a Doane Stuart tradition marking the last day on which seniors submit their college applications. Over 300 Students, Faculty and Staff come to school donning college sweatshirts of their choice. Each year the community gathers in the Golub Interfaith Chapel for a commemorative all-school photo.

The celebration continued this year when the Fourth Grade met with Doane Stuart’s Director of College Counseling  to talk about the college application process, and to learn “who” goes to college, “what” college is, and “why” college is important.  The students also had a blast “designing” their ideal college; choosing School colors and mascots, discussing if they would prefer a school in sunny Florida or snowy Vermont, and even what they might want to study someday

In many ways, the college counseling process at Doane Stuart is an extension of a student’s overall experience. Students are encouraged to embark on a process of self-reflection, to gather information and then make informed decisions through extensive discovery and analysis. Our goal is to give students (and their families) the guidance that they need to help them to make the most informed choices at each step in the process. The 38 members of the Class of 2016 have already earned over $2.8 Million in offers of merit scholarships! This does not include need-based financial aid.
