Fall 2019 Sports Recap
As we reflect on the Fall 2019 Sports Season, we observe more Doane Stuart students participating in interscholastic sports in large part to our merged team opportunities with Rensselaer High School.
- CENTRAL HUDSON VALLEY LEAGUE CHAMPIONS! – The Boys Varsity Soccer Team captured the first CHVL Championship in the school’s history. Upper School Science Teacher and Coach David Wells led this merged team of boys from Doane Stuart and Rensselaer HS to a 7-1 regular season league record and a 10-5 overall record. Their regular season accomplishments helped them to earn a No. 7 seed out of 22 teams in the Section 2 Class C Tournament. The season ended with a hard-fought 3-2 loss in double-overtime to a talented Mayfield team on October 24th. Individually, several members of this team earned post-season recognitions. Rensselaer High players Angel Garcia and Ba Soet earned Second Team All-Star status while teammates Ki Pawhtoo and Klay Klay were named First Team All-Stars. Doane Stuart Junior Ben Guilbault was also a First Team All-Star Selection. Joseph “Joey” Dipreta was named the league’s MOST VALUABLE PLAYER (MVP). Congratulations to all members of the team!
- GIRLS TENNIS TEAM – Doane Stuart students Monica Gault and Kira Nakushian filled the top two singles positions on this merged team of Doane Stuart and Rensselaer HS players.
- GIRLS VOLLEYBALL – Sophomore Irene Frias represented this merged team of players from Doane Stuart and Rensselaer HS on the Girls Varsity Team. Several players from Doane Stuart competed at the Junior Varsity level as well. As volleyball grows nationally in popularity as an interscholastic sport choice, we are observing more girls from Doane Stuart participate too.
- GIRLS VARSITY SOCCER – Upper School Director and Coach James Wheaton led a young and relatively inexperienced team through a challenging CHVL Game Schedule this past fall season. The girls embraced the challenge with determination and strong team unity. Noteworthy achievements included first-ever goals by senior Caroline Page and sophomore Tei Bukhala as well as Cassidy Samuel’s first assist! Thank you for representing Doane Stuart in interscholastic competition.
