Congratulations to the #8 seed girls soccer, who won their open round sectional matchup versus #9 Heatly on Friday, October 21. Playing on a rain-soaked afternoon at the Emma Willard field, the DS girls fought a back-and-forth contest, which saw the teams tied 0-0 at the end of regulation. Per Section 2 rules, the girls would then have to play two additional 10 minute extra time periods. Neither team was able to push a goal through during the first extra time. However, the second extra period saw Doane Stuart’s breakthrough. Leilah Mariposa ‘19 of Albany scored DS’s first goal with a brilliant shot she knocked in off a goalie rebound. Then, with about four minutes left in the second extra time, Hailey Slade ‘20 of Valatie slammed home a cross to center, which guaranteed the Thunder Chickens victory, 2-0. This win marks the first time in DS history that girls soccer won a sectional game!
The girls will next play at #1 seed OESJ (Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville) on Tuesday, October 25 at 3:00 pm. (OESJ is located at 44 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY 13452)
A spirit bus is available to take students to the game. Sign up on the community board across from the trophy case (first come, first served). The bus will leave at the beginning of 7th period and will return around 6:15 pm. Direct questions to Pat Light ([email protected]).
Congratulations and good luck tomorrow! The DS community is so proud of all that you have accomplished this season!
GO THUNDER CHICKENS!!!
