Hannah Esslie ’22 of Cairo is in her second year of varsity for the girls soccer team. The cool thing, though, is that she is only an 8th grader! Hannah made her debut last season, earning 2nd Team CHVL All-Star while helping the team make it to the quarterfinals of sectionals (best finish in DS history). Her status as an all-star 7th grader earned her a feature in the Register Star newspaper last December.
The accolades continued on Monday, October 2nd with a headline “Esslie Doesn’t Act Her Age” in the Times Union High School Highlights section in the paper and online.

Eighth-grader from Doane Stuart leads team with two goals
Doane Stuart’s Hannah Esslie certainly played like she was older than her years Monday. The eighth-grader scored both of her team’s goals in a 2-1 Central Hudson Valley League win against Rensselaer.
Her second goal came midway through the second half, by beating three defenders on a series of ankle-breaking turns. It broke a 1-all tie after she scored about 14 minutes in. Rensselaer’s May Hlaing tied the score early in the second half.
