Kate Hassett ‘23 makes community service pledge to Redemption Dance Institute (RDI)

Kate Hassett (‘23) could have had a paying job this year, but negotiated with her non-profit dance studio, Redemption Dance Institute (RDI), to count her teaching hours as community service.  Kate has been dancing with RDI for 5 years, and was overjoyed to achieve pointe last year. She is excited to be an assistant teacher for 4 classes a week for girls aged 5-11 years old in both ballet and tap. At the end of the dance season, Kate will have achieved 140 hours of community service through dance alone.  Just because she will satisfy the high school community service requirement in her Freshman year doesn’t mean that Kate will stop doing community service. “I enjoy helping others as best I can, whenever I can. I’m an altar server at church, enjoy putting together care packages for the homeless and handing them out when we come across someone in need, and hope to continue helping with dance throughout high school.”

Founded in 2003, Redemption Dance Institute (www.dancebyrdi.com) is a dance school with locations in Slingerlands and Greenville.  RDI has over 30 years of experience teaching a variety of forms of dance to people of all ages. Their dance instructors are not only passionate and experienced educators, but they are qualified through Dance Educators of America (DEA).

Last year RDI held its inaugural benefit dinner and performance to raise scholarship funds at our own Doane Stuart School.  The 2nd annual event will be held here again on Saturday, February 29th at 6pm. Mark your calendars! Tickets can be purchased on the RDI website closer to the event date.  RDI has an outreach program for their worship troupe (which includes Kate) who perform at institutions such as Pathways Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Additional performances include a Christmas show at Our Saviors Christian School on December 7th at 5pm and the annual RDI recital in May.

The Doane Stuart School thanks RDI for valuing the importance of community service as much as we do, and wishes them a wonderful and healthy dance year.
