A much-loved Lower School tradition, Books and Breakfast was held on Friday, March 11. Lower School students had been hard at work writing and illustrating their own books that they shared with their parents over delicious breakfast treats. Students sang songs in the Chapel for their guests about reading.
Each grade focused on a theme for their book and each student was given the opportunity to truly feel what it is like to be an author. They brainstormed, outlined, created rough drafts, edited, revised, illustrated and ‘published’ their final creation. Children in Early Childhood focused on rhyming books, using Dr. Seuss as their inspiration. Kindergartners created alphabet books and even included a dedication and an “About the Author” section. Students in Grade 1 used their own life as motivation in creating their books “Memoirs of a First Grader,” as did 2nd graders when creating their personal narratives about first-hand events that influenced them. The Third Graders wrote about the lives of legendary figures in history such as Mozart and Helen Keller, and the Fourth Grade tried their hand at creative writing.
