What a season for the Mock Trial team! This is the best finish for DS Mock Trial in recent memory and, quite possibly, the furthest the Trialites have ever advanced.
Following the undefeated run through Emma Willard and LaSalle and our crowning as Rennselaer County Champions, Doane Stuart was seeded to take on Canajoharie High School in the opening round of the Region III Tournament on April 25. Competing as defense, the Mock Trialites dominated Canajoharie High School (Montgomery County Champs) in the opening round, and then made it to the Region III championship with a plaintiff victory over Salem Central SD (Warren County and Washington County Champs). This set up a finals match against Potsdam Central SD (St. Lawrence County and Franklin County champs) with the winner earning the Region III Championship and moving on to represent at states. The mighty Mock Trialites competed valiantly but ultimately lost in the championship match against Potsdam Central SD, giving DS 2nd place in the northeast NY region (as far south as Columbia & Greene Counties, as far north as Clinton).
The presiding judge for the final trial against Potsdam was Mae Avila D’Agostino, a United States District Judge for the Northern District of New York. She was impressed by the DS team, and invited all of the Trialites to visit with her at the District Courthouse in Albany. (date: TBD).
Congratulations on the amazing tournament run and for your incredible season. Go Mock Trial! As part of the law Day festivities on Friday, May 1, the Mock Trial Team received their County Championship trophy at a ceremony at the Troy courthouse (pictured above).
