Students and faculty gathered in the Golub Interfaith Chapel for the School’s annual Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur Observance, processing in to the lovely sound of traditional Jewish music played by Mr. Hetko and Lydia Bagdon ’16 of Delmar. The Chapel’s opening prayer was given by Jaicee Stone ’19 of East Greenbush and Isabel Barats ’20 of Slingerlands introduced our guest, Rabbi Zalman Simon from Bethlehem Chabad.
Rabbi Simon joined us to speak about the Jewish High Holy Days and shared a story that helped students of all ages understand the ideas and traditions behind both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Rabbi Simon concluded with a demonstration of the tradition of blowing the Shofar, signifying the beginning of the Jewish New Year, and the Lower School Chorus sang a lively rendition of “Happy New Year” (“Shana Tova”). Ari Rosenblum ’16 of Slingerlands shared a reading from Isaiah (Isaiah 58:6-14) and Abe Gordon ’19 of Saratoga Springs closed the Chapel with a prayer.
