Congratulations to seniors Meghan Araldi of Westerlo and Thomas Mathes of Coxsackie for earning the Doane Stuart Scholar-Athlete Award for the the 2015-16 school year. The Doane Stuart award is “given to a senior who exemplifies Doane Stuart sports and sportsmanship.” Both Meghan and Thomas sacrificed hours of their personal time to improve their skills and be important members of their teams.
Meghan played softball, soccer, basketball and indoor and outdoor track during her DS career. She earned all-star awards for basketball and soccer and was nominated as Doane Stuart’s girls basketball scholar athlete. Her senior basketball campaign saw her earn CHVL (Central Hudson Valley League) 2nd team all-star. Meghan will attend Barton College in Wilson, N.C, where she will compete on their Division II track and field team.
Thomas also played sports year-round at Doane Stuart, competing in soccer, basketball and indoor and outdoor track and field. Thomas most recently earned 2nd team CHVL all-star for basketball. He was selected as a 1st team CHVL all-star for soccer earlier this year. Thomas also holds two school records in track and field: the 3200m – 10:47.19 and the 300m steeplechase, both set last season. Thomas will attend Endicott College in the fall.
Congratulations also to seniors Antoinette Bevins and Patrick Gorman of Hoosick Falls for earning the CHVL Outstanding Athlete Award. This award is given to a “senior in good standing who has played two CHVL sports.”
Patrick played soccer and basketball at Doane Stuart and was selected as the boys basketball scholar athlete for 2015-16. He also earned 2nd team CHVL all-star for soccer, which meant he was an all-star for three of his four seasons at Doane Stuart. Patrick will attend Providence College in the fall.
Antoinette played basketball and softball at Doane Stuart for all four years. She was softball captain and filled in at many positions. She was hardworking and a leader on the field. Antoinette will attend Manhattanville College in the fall.
Join us in celebrating all that these seniors accomplished over their four years at Doane Stuart.
They led their fellow students on the field and worked hard in the classroom. They exemplify what it means to be an athlete at Doane Stuart and we wish them all the best for college and beyond. Thank you, also, to all of the seniors who competed in a sport this year. Good luck to all you!
