Congratulations to Liam Lynch ’15 of Albany, Amelia Stapleton ’15 of Troy and Maurin O’Connor ’16 of Westerlo, who qualified to compete at the State Track and Field Championships to be held Friday and Saturday, June 12-13 at the University at Albany. Each of these athletes qualified not just by meeting the minimum standards for states, but by winning their respective Division II State Qualifiers held this past weekend at UAlbany.
Liam will compete in the 400m. Liam won the state qualifier with a time of 49.55. Liam is the current school record holder for the 400m (49.55) in addition to the 100m (11.58), 200m (22.68), 800m (1:59.23), 1600m (4:48), Boys 1600m Relay – Brandon Clancy (R), Gawain Semlear ‘17, Zak Maurer (R), Liam Lynch (3:31.7) and the Boys 3200m Relay – Gawain Semlear ‘17, Jonny Hacker ‘16, Liam Lynch and Zak Maurer (R) (8:27.14). Liam will attend Haverford College in the fall where he will continue his track career alongside Dan Sax ’14.
Amelia will compete in the 400m hurdles. Amelia won the state qualifier with a time of 65.88. Amelia is the current school recorder holder for the 400m hurdles (65.8) in addition to the 100 High Hurdles (17.22), 400m (62.74), 1600m Relay – Catherine Laporta (R), Sarah Stapleton, Anne Fraser, Amelia Stapleton (4:26.56) and the 3200m Relay – Sarah Stapleton, Anne Fraser, Amelia Stapleton and Catherine LaPorta (R) (10:32.60). Amelia will continue her track career at Smith College in the fall.
Maurin will compete in the pole vault. Maurin won the state qualifier with a vault of 9’ 3”. She is the current school pole vault recorder holder (9’ 6”) in addition to the 400m relay – Abby Hanna, Maurin O’Connor, Louise Metz, Christina Bellamy (R) (55.26).
